Stair Climbers

Stair Climbers are designed to help people with mobility problems to get up and down staircases with little or no assistance.

Why use a Stair Climber?

Frequently buildings have neither been designed nor built in such a manner that they are readily accessible for people with disabilities or impairments.

When this is the case, stairs represent a significant barrier for people with disabilities.

  • Stair climbers solve this problem effortlessly and in a safe dignified way.
  • Stair climbers can also be used for emergency situations to help people escape from a building through staircases.
  • These devices utilise electric motors and specialised treads or tracks to navigate staircases, providing a safer and more efficient alternative to manual lifting and carrying.

The benefits of using motorised stair climbers include:

key points

Increased safety: Stair climbers reduce the risk of injuries associated with manual lifting and carrying heavy objects or peolpe up or down stairs. The motorised operation minimises the physical strain on operators and decreases the likelihood of accidents or falls.

Improved efficiency: Motorised stair climbers can significantly speed up the process of moving items or people between different floors, making it faster and more efficient than relying solely on manual labor. This can save time and increase safety in an emergancy situation.

Versatility: These machines are designed to navigate various types of stairs, including straight, curved, and spiral staircases. They can adapt to different stair configurations and provide a versatile solution for transporting people in different environments.

Load capacity: Motorised stair climbers are built to handle substantial weight capacities, allowing for the transportation of heavy items that would be challenging or impossible for individuals to carry on their own.

Reduced property damage: By utilising motorised tracks or wheels, stair climbers minimise the risk of damage to stairs and walls compared to manually dragging or carrying objects, especially for delicate or fragile items.

It’s worth noting that specific features, load capacities, and designs of motorised stair climbers may vary depending on the manufacturer and model. If you’re considering using a motorised stair climber for your specific needs, it’s advisable to consult first to ensure that the machine aligns with your requirements.

Stair climbers are applicable on virtually all types of stairs including:

UK evacuation chair law

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires that all people including disabled people or people with limited mobility using the building be provided with adequate means of escape in case of fire.

  • This includes a suitable personal emergency evacuation plan (PEEP) for all people likely to be in the premises, including disabled people, and how that plan will be implemented.

  • Where an employer or a service provider does not make provision for the safe evacuation of disabled people from its premises, this may be viewed as discrimination.

  • It is essential that when purchasing an evacuation chair that a suitable training programme is also implemented.
