In order to comply with the act, it is necessary to demonstrate
that Access to your services or products is not caused through
discrimination to disabled members of the public.
You must learn or have a clear understanding of disability
access issues and know how to avoid discriminatory practices.
The necessary steps to be taken to achieve compliance with the Act
vary upon each public/ private service provider, although there is
a recognised standard procedure that all service providers should
follow. |

Step 1 Appoint
a member of staff as Disability Access Co-ordinator.
Step 2
Gather an understanding of how disabled people access your
services at present, and determine if your assessment abilities
will enable you to introduce new procedures which will comply
with the Act. It is very unlikely that you will become compliant
at this stage.
Step 3
Commission a DDA Access Audit to be carried out.
There are two ways of having this done with our help.
You can contact us to order a self-assessment audit, or
we can visit you on-site and carry out the audit for you.
Either method requires us to prepare a report for you.
The report outlines all the findings, possible solutions, timetables
and other matters relating to access.
Step 4
Implement the reports findings, which will possibly include installing
new devices and equipment and suggest alternative practices.
Recommendations will be supported with test case reviews and examples. |
