If you have not yet Access audited your premises or services,
then you have failed to meet the minimum requirements
of The Disability Discrimination Act 1995.
A claimant against you will have a much stronger case
if you have not adopted an Access for all policy.

The
method of auditing your service, is really a decision
only you can make at this stage.
You should consider the size and nature of your business or service,
and whether or not, a self-assessment audit will provide enough
information for you to be able to identify all the necessary changes.
Will the self assessment audit help you to become compliant,
and more importantly, will the chosen method provide for better
access to your business or service for your disabled customers? |

An access audit will identify immediate changes that are necessary,
and enable you to plan for those changes to be made.
Even after the first audit and after all of the recommendations have
been
implemented, you should put in place a system of regular review.
The statutory regulations are periodically updated.
You should not rely on dated reports alone, or your internal
beliefs or understanding of disability access matters. |
